流れに身を任せながら
たどり着いた物語
Going around him
Going round and round
I went with the water flow
And arrived at the story
昔から信仰の対象でもある富士山。
かつて北斎は、富士山と江戸時代の人たちの暮らしをドキュメンタリックに、そしてユーモラスに作品化した。その後も富士山は、日本を象徴する芸術のモチーフとなっている。
15年ほど前、初めて富士山を間近で見た際の「でかっ!!」が脳裏に刻まれていました。ここ数年は場所を決めて作品制作を行なっていたので、漠然と富士山でなにかできないか？と考えるようになり、まずは富士山の周りを数日かけて周ってみる事にしました。
そこで出会った方々に富士山について尋ねてみると、お気に入りのビューポイントや季節、思い出などをすすんで教えてくれて、富士山を誇りに思っているのだと感じました。本当に愛されている存在なんだなと思うと同時に、富士山が周囲に与えている影響のようなものを考えるようになりました。ここまで巨大な物体が日常的に存在する事に、改めて意識的になってみたのです。その影響力や存在感から、富士山は山ではなく王様のようだと感じるようになり、その彼の王国「KINGDOM」という言葉が浮かびました。
ここは山梨でも静岡でも、ましてや日本でもなく「彼の王国」なのだという視点で世界を捉える事により、その王国で出会う人々や景色、起こった出来事のすべてが撮影対象になっていきました。
そこから約２年半、偶然に導かれるように撮影を続けました。
Mt. Fuji was once made world-famous by Hokusai.While illustrating the mood of the world in a documentary way, he humorously depicted the appearance of Mt. Fuji. Mt. Fuji has been the motif of thousands of artworks since then.
My motivation for starting this project was simple.When I went to see Mt. Fuji for the first time about 15 years ago, I was impressed by its size, and the impression was engraved in my mind’s eye.
In recent years, I have been creating works in a specific location, so I decided to first take a road trip around Mt. Fuji for a few days.When I was there alone for days, talking with the people I met became an important event. When I asked the people about Mt. Fuji, I felt most of them were proud of Mt. Fuji.
At that time, I began to think about something like “the impact of Mt. Fuji on its surroundings.”
I became aware of the fact that such an extremely large object exists there as a normal part of life.
One day when I thought of Mt. Fuji as an anthropomorphic king and a governing ruler, the word “KINGDOM” meaning his realm came to my mind.
Yes, I came to see the world from the perspective that this is neither Yamanashi, Shizuoka, nor Japan, but “his kingdom.”
Since then, I have devoted myself to accurately recording the people and scenery I saw in his kingdom.
Like a fish, I surrendered myself to the flow of the river and went to the next place as if I expected chance encounters.
